TRANSPORT

Travel by car/camper

Travelling to Harstad by car is an adventure in itself! If you are travelling from Trondheim and traveling further north we recommend travelling along "Kystriksveien", from Steinkjer to Bodø  The coastal route along the Nordland coastline is one of the «101 World's most Scenic Routes» according to National Geographic. 

From Bodø you'll drive to Fauske, and follow E6 north to Bognes. 
From there you can take the ferry from Bognes – Lødingen, and follow Ev10, and RV83 to Harstad. 
Or you can take the ferry to Bognes – Skarstad, and follow Ev6 through the magnificent Efjorden, by Narvik to Harstad. 

Travel by plane

Harstad just under 2 hours planeride from Oslo.
The nearest airport is Harstad/Evenes airport (EVE), that lays 40 km from Harstad. Norwegian, SAS, Widerøe and Flyr has routes to and from the airport. The airport have direct routes to Oslo, Trondheim, Bergen, Bodø and Tromsø.

It is also possible to travel to nearby airportes. 
Bardufoss airport (BDU) lays about a two hour drive from Harstad. 
Tromsø airport (TOS) lays about a 4 hour drive from Harstad, or a 3 hour ride with speedboat.

Travel by boat

Harstad is surrounded by islands, and also lays on Norways largest island. Therefore we have many types of boat routes going to and from Harstad. 

Most known is probably Hurtigruten / Norway coastal express traveling from Bergen to Kirkenes by 34 different ports. One of them being Harstad. 

The speedboat between Harstad and Tromsø has three departures a day, and takes about 3 hours.
There is also several local ferries, speed boats routes for those who want to explore nearby islands.

Travel by train 

The northernmost place you can travel with by train in Norway is Fauske. There are buses that go to Harstad from there. Read more about norwegian train routes on VY.no
